Team
Survivor Perseverance - Juneau, Alaska™ is a non-profit corporation
and member of the National
Association of Team Survivor Groups.
WHO
WE ARE NATIONALLY
The
original Team Survivor™ program was founded in 1995 in conjunction
with the Danskin™ Women's Triathlon Series. The individuals
involved with the Danskin Team Survivor program in Seattle, Washington,
believed that it was important to provide year-round support and fitness
opportunities, and started an organization to provide weekly exercise
programs and periodic fitness events for women affected by cancer.
Since that time, Team Survivor™ programs have grown throughout
the United States. Further information about Team Survivor™
can be found on the national website: www.teamsurvivor.org.
WHO
WE ARE LOCALLY
While receiving cancer treatment in Seattle in 2000 Nicki Germain became aware of the Team Survivor programs. Having received tremendous support from family, friends, co-workers and even strangers during her treatment, Nicki was looking for a way to express her gratitude and give something back to the community. She saw Team Survivor as a way to do this.
Team Survivor Perseverance - Juneau, Alaska™ formed in January of 2002 with a weekly walking group. In September of that year, we sent our first running team to the Klondike Road Relay.
In line with our mission, we strive to keep women physically active year round. Sense that first year, weekly programs have expanded and seasonal training programs have been added.
See our schedule for ongoing group activities and upcoming special events.
